5 things I continue living for

Life gets pretty shitty sometimes. And that’s quite relatable. Things start to go downhill, and slowly it feels like everything might get worse. We all have dark days. Some worser than others.

I too, am not a super human, so I have my terrible days too. Days when it doesn’t make sense why one should keep going.

"Everything is gonna go wrong anyways, what’s the point?" These are just some of the many questions I ask myself when I have one of these “bad” days.

But then again, there are a few things in my life worth living for.

So, I can continue going for them.

The following are 5 such things that help me get up every morning and eventually sleep at night. These might be the same for the reader, but if they aren't, I need you to know that these are just a few such things.

There is so much more to life than just downsides. May it be your best friend or your favorite ice-cream flavor, things like these make life worth living, just for a little longer.

So, let’s have a look at my list:

1. The MOON:

Now hear me out on this. The moon is one of the top ones on my list because I have got my priorities straight. Think about it for a second. Change is the only constant in life, right? But what is the one constant in our space/galaxy for ages? The moon.

Yep, that beautiful thing has seen all parts of us, the good and the bad, the worst and the best. It existed when Shakespeare was looking at it for inspiration, it also existed when Ashoka prayed to it before going into war. It has been the only constant for us.

Watching the moon every night from my bedroom window is a secret pleasure of mine. There are days when it changes shape to look like a cute smile (crescent shape) and there are days when it looks a glamorous whole. But everyday it is present for me in some shape or form.

I detest days of new moons, because then I get to miss the one thing that helps me sleep in comfort.

(I personally hold a desire to walk under the moonlight at the beach in the most un-cliché way with someone who would enjoy the walk just as much as I would.)

So yep, the moon is one thing that wakes me up in the morning and keeps me up at night.

2. Watching my family cry in joy as I graduate:

I am 17 years old. Soon I will be going off to college or doing whatever it is that I am destined to. The place I call home today might just become a lone memory within an year. 17 years were spent with one family. They saw me cry, they lifted me, played with me and in the end STAYED with me. I shared every cry, every smile with them and they all made it worth it.

I know that once I’m off to some abroad rich country, there will be several days when the house will feel empty. Several days when there will be no one to scream it.

{And yes ma, this is directed to you, you no longer will have to scream at me to eat my fruits and clean my room.}

But in the end, I will miss it. I will miss it more than anything in the world. My family is one of the greatest gifts any one could ever bestow on me and I am extremely grateful on them.

However, watching them smile and cry when I graduate is a childhood dream of mine and I am not stopping until I make that come true. Through blurry tears I can already imagine my mom screaming and clapping the loudest and my brother mumbling as to how they were “embarrassing him” with the screaming and clapping, but through it all,

we will be in this together, and that’s all that matters.

3. My dog Teddy

I still remember the day we got our dog.

It was a lone Friday; I was awakened by the screams of brother telling me we had a surprise planned for the day. The next few hours were a blur with everyone running around and getting dressed, but soon a few hours later, I had a cute puppy in my hands and a smile etched onto my face. It was honestly one of the best surprises.

Teddy helped me in ways he would never realize. Him coming up to me because he felt something was wrong, snuggling up to me when he was cold or even just barking at 3 am at night because he felt like playing, all of them helped me realize what a wonderful feeling even an organism who couldn’t speak could give me.

Teddy always has my heart no matter how much I scold him for ruining my projects and completely destroying my bed.

4. My brother Rohit

Although I have already spoken about my family, my brother deserves a special section in here. My brother is my second half, he knows me in ways I don’t tend to know myself in. Although being the younger one, he has proven to be my guidepost in several different issues and I am forever grateful to him for this. Waking up everyday just to annoy him or to get a different opinion on my clothes are some of my favorite moments in life. And I tend to make it all some of the best moments too.

One day, we will be miles apart and the only way I would be able to listen to him rant about some game of his, will be through the phone. So until then, I want to make the best out of whatever is left.

He deserves all the love in the world and I really hope he knows and receives this.

He is my world.

5. Going on a trip alone/Decorating my room-dorm alone:

If you have read all the above points properly, you would have realized that I have forever been coddled in a home filled with love and care. Doing things independently was granted to me on several occasions, however every step taken were taken while keeping the consequences in mind.

That is why just for once, when I am off and away from home, I would like to take decisions without worrying about “what might happen later.” I would like to paint my room blue and then realize that all my furniture was blue thus making a stupid decision. But at least the decision would be mine.

Everything I have done so far, I am happy with, however making decisions on my own would make me happier.

I work towards the day when I no longer have to respond to anyone, won’t have to think about how much money or food I’m wasting, not worry about what might happen later.

Anyone reading this, I love you, please stay. Its worth it.
